Did you vote?

I stopped what I was doing last night at around 3 (a.m.) in the morning so that I could take a few hours to sleep and be ready to vote the same day. Dang left early to fulfill her duty as a poll watcher for incumbent mayor Vicente Amante while I spent the rest of the morning doing my daily work and play rituals.

I went to the polls after lunch and just like previous elections, campaign materials like sample ballots are scattered everywhere. If you’ll look at them closely at their scattered state it’s like looking at hundreds of peso bills lying waste on the earth as trash. Why not? It’s very likely that government money was spent on printing those. Nah, I don’t think I want to go into discussing the filth that is Philippine politics.

I met my wife at the precinct where we were assigned. Being that it was already after lunch, there weren’t that many people around the polling places or precincts anymore. I also saw the number of people that have already voted and if you compared it to the long list of registered voters posted outside the precinct then you’ll know that not many came out to vote, at least for that particular precinct.

It didn’t take us long to cast our votes because we (my wife and I) already know who to vote for. I think, the time I took walking from our house to the precinct and back was longer. After exercising our right to vote, I went home and left Dang to continue with her obligation.

Back at home, we had a brief discussion about what we did today.

How about you? Did you vote? If not then why? I may not like politics and I generally feel that our country isn’t progressing as fast as we want to but not voting is almost like having no hope for the future. It’s like you already gave up even before the fight starts.

Voting is something I’ve never missed since the day I first registered and will never miss until I die because it takes only 1 vote to make a difference.

I always went to vote ever since I had the legal age, but for the second turn of the presidential election (France) I decided I’ll stop voting altogether… I always voted for the same political party, and this party has no deputy in the national assembly despite having always between 15% to 20% voters. So whenever you’ll hear that France is a democratic country, know that is bullshit, it’s democratic if you vote for one or the other party, but if you’re in the REAL opposition (to the system) then all your votes don’t count. So screw everything, I won’t vote ever again, the only exception will be if at one occasion my party is on the second turn of an election, then I’ll be here to help, but with no hope.
